Where once upon a time the Main Street of every U.S. city sported a local record store, downloads, streaming and online retailers conspired --and largely succeeded-- in closing their doors. But what once bode certain extinction for these surviving shops has seemingly turned around, all thanks to a format of recorded music that virtually vanished with the invention of the compact disc–the vinyl record.
