Library Advances Universal Access to Biological Data

UC San Diego - May 05, 2026

Approximately 2600 years ago, in the Middle Eastern land of Nineveh, the Assyrian king ordered the curation of what is believed to be the first library of human knowledge. A few hundred years later and 1300 miles to the west in ancient Greece, the first mechanical computational tool was devised to chart celestial movement. Landmark events in scientific history. But it would take until the early 20th century for these two sciences to converge, allowing computation to access accumulated knowledge.
